     The public transport in Prague is well developed, which helps you to get almost everywhere in the city. You may buy tickets in news-stands or tobacco kiosks, called Traffic (Trafika), as well as in various small grocery stores, ticket machines, sometimes in the underground at the window panel.


      In Prague, all-transport ticket is spread for all kinds of transport. If the ticket is not punched, you may be fined. Usually the usage of the tickets is limited only by the time from the moment of punching during which the ticket is valid for travel.

Underground (Metro) in Prague.



  

      The first proposal of the underground construction in Prague was made by Ladislav Rott in 1898, after the opening of the Budapest Metro. Partially the underground railway was designed in 1920, but the building began only in 1966, but in spite of, forty-year difference between the designing and the building of the underground, today far underground in Prague’s subway is the seventh place in annual passenger traffic in Europe.
       The Prague’s underground consists of 3 lines marked by letters and different colors:  green line goes from Depo Hostivař to Dejvická,  yellow line from Černý Most to Zličín,  red line from Háje to Letňany with transitions at stations Muzeum (lines A and C), Můstek (lines A and B) and Florenc (line B and C). The underground works daily from 5.00 to 24.00. The interval of movement between trains during on weekdays is from 2 to 3 minutes, on weekends is from 4 to 10 minutes.
Trams in Prague.





     Tram is a symbol of Prague. The first horse tram passed through the Czech capital in 1875, an electric tram first appeared in 1891.

     The tram schedule during the daytime is from 4:30 to 24:00. The interval of movement is about 8-12 minutes. Daytime line is serviced by trams № 1-26.

      The nighttime line is serviced by trams № 51-59, from 00:00 to 4:30. The interval of movement is about 30 minutes. The timetable of trams is given at all stops. The central transfer station of night trams is the stop «Lazarská», and is situated in ten minutes walk from Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí).

       For the most tourist it will be interesting to get acquainted with Prague trough the windows of the «historic» tram № 91. This train runs on weekends and holidays from late March till mid-November every hour from 12:00 to 18:00 from Vozovna Strsheshovitse (Vozovna Střešovice).


Buses in Prague.





     There are about 300 bus lines that serve passengers for 24 hours. Daily schedule of work is from 4.30 to 00.30, night schedule is between 00.30 and 4.30 and is serviced by buses № 501 - 514 and № 601 - 604. The timetable of buses is given at all stops.




Cable railway (Funicular) in Prague.


   For those who wish to enjoy the wonderful views of the Vltava River, the center of the city,  Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) and St. Vitus Cathedral powerful, just buy a ticket for public transport and go to the funicular (Lanová dráha), which is located on the hill Petrin (Petřín). Funicula starts from the street County (Újezd) at the Mala Strana street (here you can get trams № 6, 9, 12, 20 or 22 to Újezd). Funicular works daily from 9:00 to 23:30 (from April to October) and from 9:00 to 22:20 (from November to March). The interval of movement is from 10-15 minutes. Buying a ticket to the funicular, we advise you to buy a ticket for 24 hours, which gives you not only an opportunity to use public transport unlimited number of times, but also gives you an opportunity to use cable railway as well.
