Nice. French riviera.

Nice

Nice – is the capital of the Cote d'Azur in France, located on the Mediterranean coast. No words, no exclamations, could express the charm of this magical city. Gleaming sun and relaxing atmosphere of Nice has always attracted artists and writers. Among them were Dumas, Nietzsche, Apollinaire, Flaubert, Victor Hugo, George Sand, Stendhal, and Chateaubriand. Nice stretches along the shores of the magnificent Angels’ Bay. Unforgettable views open onto the city from the observation deck; don’t miss the opportunity to admire the grandiose sunsets and views of the coast.

Nice – is the perfect place for walking and active rest on the Riviera. Stroll over the Promenade des Anglais, quiet streets of the old town or the ancient ruins of Roman periods.

There are more than 200 hotels and 100 restaurants, casinos "Ruhl", 15 private beaches, clean and equipped municipal beaches, 18 museums and art galleries for tourists in Nice. Nice has a rich historical and cultural heritage.

The city was founded by the Greeks in the 5th century BC and named in honor of Nicky, the goddess of victory. In the 19th century the Victorian upper ten of society and the royal aristocracy loved to be in Nice. Today, this city is more like a resort for the middle class society and also a commercial center: it is not as fashionable as it was and less expensive than the resort towns in the neighborhood.

Thanks to the international airport and rapid trains from Paris, http://www.raileurope.com/european-trains/tgv/how-to-book.html,  Nice is the first resort on the Côte d’Azur, which is visited by many tourists. Despite the modernization, Nice has retained its medieval heritage in the old part of the city, here you will see roofs located close to each other, covered with red tiles; narrow winding streets with lots of shops, small  and cozy restaurants.
It is difficult to imagine Nice without the famous flower, fruit and vegetable market «Cours Saleya», which works every morning. The market is separated from the sea by strip of low, many-windowed buildings. Once they were used as the store for the catch of fishermen, where now many fish restaurants are situated. Along the other side of the market you may find cafes in the beautiful historic buildings.

Sightseeing

One of the main sightseeing in Nice is the Promenade des Anglais (promenade des Anglais) – wide boulevard, which stretches for 6 km along the beach, showcasing the bay. Covered with "islands" of palm trees and beautiful flowers, the promenade from Victorian time is a favorite place for leisurely strolls.

On the other side of the Promenade one can find luxurious cafes, Massena Museum (Musée Masséna), luxury villas and hotels. The eastern side of the Promenade des Anglais proceed to the Qui de Etat Eunice Bay (quai des Etats-Unis), where some of the best restaurants in Nice, specializing in special fish soup «Bouillabaisse» are situated.

If you claim the scar, you can see well-known place, which is called Shato Hill, where was the castle, which was destroyed in 1706, all that remains to present days are two or three stones. The hill was turned into the garden overgrown with pine trees and exotic flowers. If you want to admire the panorama, you may use the elevator.
