     Marseilles is a city in south-eastern part of France on the Mediterranean Sea and it is the main centre of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) and the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône (Bouches-du-Rhône). The city was founded in the six hundredth BC by the settlement of Greek sailors from the city Phocaea and was called «Massalia». At present time, Marseille is the largest French Harbor and the biggest port in the Mediterranean. The city had a population of 851420 to 2008, which brings Marseille to the second place after Paris according to the number of inhabitants
     Let’s say some words about the climate. People say «A climate blessed by the Gods». With over 300 days of sunshine per year, the summer starts earlier in Marseilles than elsewhere. The mistral, which blows 90 days per year, paints the Marseilles’ sky in pure and unique light, that some of the greatest artists ever draw on their canvases.
How to get to Marseilles?
·         By plane: with over 7.3 million passengers in 2011, Marseilles-Provence airport is the third most important French airport and the top low-cost air terminal in Europe. Here you may choose hundred routes to 26 countries.
·         By train: The Mediterranean TGV reaches the centre of Marseilles from the centre of Paris for three hours. The St-Charles train station welcomes about 11 million passengers every year.
·         By road: Three motorways lead to Marseilles making the city a major motorway junction of the A7, A50 and A55.

The A55 (a coastal motorway) comes from Martigues, and joins the Prado Carenage tunnel, that allows to cross the city quickly and reach the A50 and the eastern neighborhoods of the city
·         By boat: As a large cruise ship port, Marseilles has a privileged location, ensuring regular routes to Corsica, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Italy and Sardinia. According to statistic, more than 2.3 million passengers used the Marseilles docks in 2011

Marseilles Food and gastronomy.
       The most famous drink in Marseilles, without doubts, is «Pastis» (an anise-flavored liqueur). Among the most famous dishes you may taste the «Aioli» (sauce made of garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and usually egg yolks), «Tapenade» (rich soft paste made of olives, capers, anchovies, with a variety of flavorings such as garlic, mustard, basil and parsley), «Bouillabaisse» (fish dish with a special sauce and vegetables) and «Libel» (a hard sponge cake, flavored with orange flowers in the shape of a boat).
